Ting at foretage sig på Duomo - katedralen i Milano
Under konstruktion i 600 år! Denne glorværdige og ekstravagante katedral er Milanos stolte symbol. Udsmykket med hundrede af spir og mere end 3000 statuer lige fra groteske gargoyler til helgenfigurer, men dens tronende hovedværk er den glinsende, gyldne Madonnina. Som Milanos Beskytter var hun byens højeste punkt, indtil Pirelli-tårnene stjal titlen i 1961.
Ikke uden grund blev byggeriet ophav til det milanesiske udtryk ‘longh cumè la fabrica del domm’ (så længe som arbejdet på Duomo). Den blev påbegyndt 1386 under Giangaleazzo Visconti og færdiggjort endelig i 1965, da katedralbyggeriet gennem tiden blev forsinket på grund af krig, mangel på finansiering og projektets rene og skære enormitet, der krævede særligt byggede kanaler til dens primære byggemateriale, Candoglia-marmor. I mellemtiden ledte dens lange konstruktion til en slående blanding af arkitektoniske stilarter, der er blevet lige dele rost og kritiseret.
Billetter giver dig adgang til dens strålende indre, hvor man kan nyde usædvanlige skatte såsom Borromeos kiste af bjergkrystal og statuen af den hudløse Bartolomæus. Man kan også få adgang til tagterrassen for at få udsigt over byen og en chance for at beundre de spektakulære spir tæt på. NB!
