Muinaisen Rooman sydän, legendaarinen Forum Romanum oli kukoistava sosiaalisen, poliittisen ja uskonnollisen toiminnan keskus. Torilla järjestettiin kaikkea vaaleista rikosoikeudellisiin oikeudenkäynteihin ja gladiaattoreiden taisteluihin. Nykyään se on laajalle levittäytynyt rauniokompleksi, jossa voit tehdä merkittävän kävelymatkan menneisyyteen.
Alue oli alunperin suota, joka kuivattiin silloisten huippuinsinöörien tekniikoiden avulla, ja Rooman valtakunnan kaatumisen jälkeen alue otettiin käyttöön. Alueelta ryöstettiin kiviä ja marmoreita, jonka jälkeen se suurelta osin unohdettiin, kunnes 1700-luvulla alueella aloitettiin kaivaukset, jotka jatkuvat yhä.
Valtavalta alueelta kannattaa ainakin nähdä 23 metriä korkea Septimius Severuksen riemukaari, Curia –senaatin istuin, Jerusalemin valtauksen muistoksi pystytetty Tituksen riemukaari sekä muutamat Saturnuksen temppelin jäljellä olevista graniittipylväistä. Kulje myös pitkin Via Sacran pääkatua, joka yhdisti aikoinaan Capitoliumin Colosseumiin.
